THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG

Shot entirely in secret, Mohammad Rasoulof’s searing Iranian drama won the Special Jury and the FIPRESCI prizes at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Rasoulof fled his home before finishing The Seed of the Sacred Fig to avoid prison. Iman is recently appointed as a judge in Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court. However this new position comes parallel to growing unrest against the government on the streets, which stirs discontent and emboldens his wife and two daughters at home in their political convictions. As the family falls under scrutiny, the judge’s public life falls into jeopardy, and his distrust blooms in all directions. Acclaimed filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulouf has never held back: his films are sharp incisions into the political tissue of Iranian society and The Seed of the Sacred Fig (2024) makes no exception. This monumental work is a gripping dissident drama about the dangers of complicity with state repression.DramaPT2H47M152025-02-21
