THE ORDER
Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult are at their finest in Justin Kurzel's bracing historical thriller THE ORDER, that recreates one of the largest manhunts in FBI history. Based on a chilling true story, THE ORDER depicts a terrorist group determined to promote their racist, antisemetic ideology — and the lawmen who will go to any lengths to stop them. The film begins in 1983 with the combative voice of Jewish Colorado disc jockey Alan Berg (Marc Maron), verbally sparring with antisemitic callers whilst Terry Husk (Jude Law) skulks around town, searching for clues to connect this disappearance with a rash of bank robberies and planted explosive devices that have littered the terrain. Jamie Bowen (Tye Sheridan), a go-get-em young officer, points Husk in the direction of the Aryan Nation compound just a few miles outside of town. Unlike most other true-crime films, "The Order" isn't out to titillate or digress into exploitation. The Order goes beyond that, showing us the inherent danger of magnetic leaders, as well as the debilitating toll of chasing an evil that sometimes seems uncontainable. Law and Hoult’s differing energies turn the film into something more than a mere crime drama; it begins to feel like an eternal struggle with existential, civilizational consequences.
